Sydney’s newest distillery and cocktail bar, Kings Cross Distillery, is finally putting the challenges of lockdowns and restrictions to one side and is opening its doors this Thursday.
Located in Potts Point, between Macleay Street and Llankelly Place, KXD is aiming to bring some much needed life back to the bright lights of Kings Cross.
Managing Director, Khare Aoun, said: “This venue has been a long time in the making and we’ve been hard at work building a gorgeous place for people to enjoy phenomenal cocktails, the culinary gin inspired delights and the warm and friendly atmosphere provided by our staff.”
The bar’s signature cocktail will be the Aalto Martini, featuring 60ml of the KXD Australian Classic Dry Gin, dry vermouth rinse, and a slice of preserved lemon peel.
Other cocktails include Impeachment with smokey peach flavours that burst out of the bubble on top of this cocktail, the Sin and Tonique, a deliciously sinful floral gin and tonic and Pepperation Makes Perfect, a gin old fashioned with savoury complexions.
The bar will also offer the Pear of Kings, featuring gin, white vermouth and pear liqueur.
Guests will also be able to see the distillery’s pot-still, affectionately known as ‘Miss Pottsy’ located in the heart of the bar, making the KXD’s signature gin, which is already gaining international recognition after picking up a medal at the London Spirits Competition.
Director and spirit architect Odelia Potts said: “Our team at Kings Cross Distillery is so excited to introduce Sydneysiders to the wonders of this magical venue and the stories behind our inspiration, which are reflected in the gins, made here onsite in the heart of the Potts Point Kings Cross Precinct.”
The bar has a décor of dark green leather, exposed brick, polished concrete and gold details giving it a real 1920s speakeasy feel. There are also nods to the locations chequered past of being a speakeasy in the 1960s as well as an illegal gambling den and an adult bookstore.
