With the theme of ‘Looking Forward’, this year’s virtual-edition of the Aussie Whisky Show was a huge success, with thousands of people tuning in from their homes to taste whisky and engage with Australian whisky distillers.
Hosted by The Whisky Show and The Whisky List, the audience heard from 10 Australian distillers across a two-hour livestream, which focused on new and soon-to-be-released whiskies.
Approximately 2200 whisky lovers tuned in via Facebook, Youtube and the Show app. 19 whiskies were included in the pack and 10 were sampled live, with the audience sharing feedback with the distillers and asking them for an insight into their process along the way.
Here’s what some of the distillers who took part had to say about the event.
“These virtual whisky shows are seriously great. They give more people across the country access to try more Aussie whisky. Which is a win for all of us Aussie distillers. The other huge benefit of these try at your own pace tasting kits is gives consumers the chance to take their time with each whisky, don’t need to rush and really explore the unique flavours of each distiller’s signature expression.”
Peter Bignell – Remnant Whisky and Belgrove Distillery, Tasmania
“These virtual shows are a great way to showcase both our whisky and the other Aussie distilleries to whisky drinkers across Australia. Especially with limited travel currently, it’s a great way to be able to connect with our audience and hear their feedback during the live tasting.”
Jane Overeem – Overeem Distillery, Tasmania
“It was great to be a part of the Australian Virtual Whisky Show for the second year in a row. A presentation like this is important to the industry, particularly during such trying times of restrictions and lockdowns. It was fabulous to be able to catch up with so many people!”
Gareth and Angela Andrews – Fleurieu Distillery, South Australia
“Thankyou to the team at The (Virtual) Aussie Whisky Show for giving us a way to reach a broad range of highly engaged whisky enthusiasts! We see a very notable increase in customer engagement and sales after being involved in these virtual whisky tastings. In particular it offers rural whisky enthusiasts a new way to attend tastings which are usually limited to the capital cities.”
David Pearse – 5Nines Distilling, South Australia
“Once again the folk from The Whisky List provided a fantastic and professional platform to bring together distillers and whisky fans from all over the country. During these tough times it is even more satisfying to have an opportunity to chat with our peers and the whisky community around the country. It’s events like these that remind us why we are passionate about producing our whisky.”
