Cocktail Menu: Raise a glass to International Tequila Day

On International Tequila Day (Monday 24 July), celebrate this beautifully diverse spirit with two refreshingly sweet tequila based cocktails.

Ernesto Acuña Lucke, Marketing Director of highly awarded Mexican tequila Casa Don Ramon, said: “More and more Australians are moving towards enjoying their tequila neat or on the rocks, but the margarita continues to be one of the most popular cocktails in the country.”

Ernseto shares his tropical take on the classic cocktail, a Kiwi Margarita.

Kiwi Margarita

Ingredients:

  • 45ml Tequila Don Ramón Platinum Plata
  • 15ml Damiana liqueur
  • 15ml lemon juice
  • 15ml agave syrup
  • Five basil leaves
  • Half a kiwi fruit
  • Volcanic salt
  • One cup of ice

Directions:

  1. Muddle the kiwi and basil leaves in a cocktail shaker
  2. Pour one cup of ice and the remaining ingredients into a shaker
  3. Shake vigorously
  4. Strain and serve in a glass rimmed with volcanic salt (giving an exotic touch because of its black flavour, the volcanic salt has a mineral touch that helps to emphasise the citrus flavours)

“There’s something much deeper and compelling to the spirit and in the last five years the magic of tequila has been truly discovered and celebrated,” says Ewen Pettit, Co-Founder of Delgados Tequila Soda and Soldada Tequila.

“I love the fact that Tequila is the result of many small acts and intricate details that when they come together create an incredible drink.”

Ewen shares his favourite way to enjoy a sophisticated serve of Soldada Tequila, the Soldada Paloma.
