Panel to shed light on newly-formed IBA

Industry experts will lead several powerhouse panel sessions as part of the free workshops at the Drinks Industry Show, held from June 18-19 in Sydney.

While each of the sessions will have plenty to offer, perhaps the most relevant to those in the bar industry is titled ‘Why does an Independent Bars Association matter?’, and will be held at 4:30pm on Monday 18 June.

With the recent launch in NSW of the Independent Bars Association (IBA), this panel will discuss how the IBA can make a difference to business, and encourage participation is Sydney’s night-time economy.

Chaired by Andy Young, the editor of Australia’s leading trade journal for the liquor and hospitality industry TheShout, the panel will feature IBA driving forces Michael Rodrigues, MD of Time Out Australia; Tim Philips-Johansson, owner of Bulletin Place and Dead Ringer; and Four Pillars Gin co-founder and President of the Australian Distillers Association, Stu Gregor.

“At the launch of the Independent Bars Association last month there was a real sense of positivity and optimism about what this association can do for the industry,” Young said.

“This panel is going to discuss why associations like the IBA matter, how it can work with other organisations to really make a difference and how more people can be encouraged to get out, enjoy Sydney and really revive the city’s night-time economy.

“I’m simply chairing this panel and it’s all about what these three key industry players have to say. Mike has been a driving force, not only behind the IBA but behind improving Sydney’s night-time economy; Tim is Australia’s most awarded bartender, he’s the co-owner of Bulletin Place and a founding member of the IBA, so understands the small bar industry and Stu is a passionate and hugely knowledgeable industry supporter.

“As the co-founder of Four Pillars Gin, President of the Australian Distillers Association and head marketing firm Liquid Ideas he knows all about the industry and what’s going on.

“I’m delighted to be chairing this discussion and I can’t wait to hear what all of these guys have to say, because I know there will be some great insights into what people can do to make a difference and actually make things happen.”

To sweeten the deal, attendees can look forward to a full drinks service with Event Curator Ben Davidson preparing a different drink for every session.

“With the interest so far, we’re expecting all the workshops to be at capacity again,” added Event Director David Paterson. “There’s no need to book, but as it’s first come, first served, please come early to ensure your seat and make the most of these fantastic opportunities.

“Registration is free to this unique, trade-only event, so make sure you register now.”
