Auchentoshan is aiming to shake up the whisky category with the introduction of the Auchentoshan & Ale cocktail into bars across Melbourne and Sydney.
The drink combines whisky, pale ale and fresh lemon juice to create a “refreshing cocktail” which “challenges the traditional whisky serve cliché.”
Auchentoshan (pronounced ‘ock-un-tosh-un’) is the only triple-distilled, single malt Scotch whisky. Founded in Glasgow in 1823, Auchentoshan is revitalizing an old Scottish favourite, the ‘hauf an’ hauf’ dram and ale chaser, to create the new cocktail.
The triple-distillation of Auchentoshan results in a smooth-yet-gutsy whisky that has the same distinctive nut and citrus base notes as many pale ales, and complements other flavours rather than contradicting or masking them.
According to Auchentoshan, the “rounded malt profile of pale ale matches the soft malt build of Auchentoshan American Oak, allowing the sweetness of the oak to come through and balance the subtle fruit hop aromas and citrus lemon acidity.”
Michael Nouri, Auchentoshan Brand Ambassador, said: “The Auchentoshan and Ale is not only a reference to Scottish heritage but also a nod to Australia’s culture of sharing a round of beers with a mate.
“Not a beer, not a whisky, not even a boilermaker, the combination of Auchentoshan and pale ale offers a refreshing alternative and an invitation for non-traditional Scotch drinkers to give a Scotch whisky a go.”
The cocktail will be served at a number of bars and hotels across Melbourne and Sydney, including: the Railway Hotel, Campari House, The Kilburn, The Woolshed and Lulie Street Tavern (Melbourne) and Bitter Phew, Webster’s, Papa Gede’s, Norsk Dor and Soda Factory (Sydney).
