Mezcal aficionados are set to receive access to some of Mexico’s finest and rarest craft spirits with the Gold Coast’s most unique underground bar, Veladora, unveiling La Vitrina – a premium new offering to which only a few will be granted access.
La Vitrina, which translates from Spanish to The Showcase, will present an entirely new and personalised experience for members, unlocking an exclusive ritual and special offers that are sure to leave a lasting impression after every visit.
Upon joining all members will be presented with a Veladora copita, a traditional small clay bowl-like cup. The copita which is made specifically for mezcal consumption and enjoyment will also serve as a key for members to unlock their collection.
Presentation of the unique copita to one of Veladora’s Masters of Mezcal will grant them access to their collection which is housed securely in their own private locker.
Membership to La Vitrina will also provide exclusive access to purchase bottles from Veladora’s collection, an enviable suite of more than 100 of Mexico’s finest and rarest tequilas and mezcals, curated by Mycol Cavalieri, voted one of UK’s top 100 bartenders in 2019.
La Vitrina’s offering includes limited release tequila Calle 23 Criollo; the exquisite Hacienda de Chihuahua Sotol H5, known as “Mexico’s best kept secret”; the El Jolgorio Tepeztate mezcal made from a wild agave that takes up to 16 years to mature; the Flor del Desierto
Veneno which is cured with rattlesnake venom; and the limited edition Tequila Ocho 8/8/8 – Rancho El Carizal Extra Anejo.
The mezcal ranges in price per bottle from $150 to $7,500, with the average price at around $400. Key holders of La Vitrina will receive 30% off any bottle in Veladora for the membership period (maximum of 3 bottles per member at any one time) which they can then store securely, and privately, inside La Vitrina for their next visit, building their own personal collection.
Making the experience even more special, the lime and salt are left at the door, replaced instead with innovative chasers including a house made Verdita, a blend of locally grown herbs, spices and pineapple, just one of the unique chasers available to La Vitrina members at every visit.
A complimentary selection of unique and authentic bar snacks to further arouse one’s adventurous side will also be served to members on every visit. These include Black Popcorn with Isomalt and Squid Ink; Black Guacamole with Green Ants and Mealworm-seasoned Salsa; and a Peanut and Cricket Trailmix with Chilli and Lime. (If insects are pushing your boundaries, you can order sans bugs!)
A one-off membership fee of $500 will unlock these benefits and give members access to La Vitrina for six months.
Discover Veladora
Synonymous with the traditional speakeasy establishments, Veladora’s location remains a closely guarded secret, but those who know, know to cross the bridge where the Broadbeach monorail once lived and look for a red palm tree to light the way.
Veladora’s bartenders create their own mixers such as the Aloe Vera Soda and the Orange and Absinthe Foam, and sometimes elevating their craft to an otherworldly level with a Chipotle Smoked Agave Nectar and Porcini Mushroom Mezcal.
La Vitrina aside, the exquisite cocktail menu is an adventure in itself – with every drink sharing a unique story of Mexico often served with the venue’s clear ice which is also produced in-house using a controlled freezing technique ensuring it is free of impurities and melts slowly – the perfect accompaniment to any drink on the menu.
Alluring and intimate, Veladora is open Friday and Saturday evenings, 6pm until late with La Vitrina memberships available now.
