The Sweet Spring Gin, produced by Allsworth-based producer the Farmer’s Wife Distillery, has been re-released following a sell-out batch in 2021.
The gin has undergone a cask maturation in sweet vermouth barrels from Margan Wines, found in the Hunter Valley, close to the Farmer’s Wife Distillery.
Kylie Sepos, Founder and Head Distiller of the Farmer’s Wife, explained that this barrel aging process makes perfect sense for her gin.
“After our signature gin was so beautifully enhanced through the barrel ageing process to create the Warm Winter Gin, I began exploring other options for barrel ageing,” Kylie says.
“The sweet vermouth from Margan Wines is one of our favourite cocktail pairings, so it was only natural to try ageing our gin in these former vermouth barrels – and we are sure glad we did!”
This bottling begins with the Farmer’s Wife’s ‘hallmark’ gin, which is made with a base of sugar cane spirit, and contains 13 botanicals, including myrtle, sage and ‘rare sugar bag honey’. The Farmer’s Wife practices traditional single-shot gin distillation in a copper pot still commissioned by Tasmanian still-maker, Peter Bailey.
The Sweet Spring Gin is part of a range of seasonally-inspired products, that includes an Autumn Dry bottling, a Summer Spritz gin, and a Warm Winter gin.
“We were absolutely thrilled last year to complete our family of season inspired gins with our Sweet Spring Gin.
The expression is said to be ‘inspired by the classic pairing of gin and vermouth’, such as in the traditional Martinez cocktail.
Serving suggestions include Singapore Slings and French Martinis.
The gin is available from the Farmer’s Wife website, and at select liquor stores Australia-wide. This gin is available to the on-premise directly from the Farmer’s Wife, while other Farmer’s Wife expressions are distributed by Paramount Liquor.
