Yes, we know that social distancing and creating COVID-safe venues are very important at the moment, but here’s a look at how some places around the world have brought some fun and innovative thinking into their venue.
From Sydney to Seoul and from the UK to the US, coronavirus has seen Governments enforce venue lockdowns in a bid to slow the spread of the disease. Now as restrictions are starting to be eased, people are being allowed into venues once more.
But the disease is still a danger, so in a bid to avoid second waves strict protocols are being put in place, but as London bar Mr Fogg’s Residence showed, you can still have some fun, so they brought in mannequins in Victorian clothing to sit in seats and fill the venue. The team also donned bee-keeping suits as their PPE.
Over in Seoul, Coffee Bar K has been using robots since 2017 with bottles hanging from the ceiling. The bar says it thinks robots have an even bigger part to play now because of the pandemic, but they do always have a human bartender working as well.
In Amsterdam, vegan restaurant Mediamatic Eden has gone extreme, building a small glasshouse around each of its outside tables.
In Sydney, Five Dock Dining also adopted the mannequin approach to help its guests feel they were enjoying a busy vibe.
Want to enjoy your lunch date from behind a giant screen? Well just head to Restaurant Hand in Paris and you’ll be sweet.
Not the ‘behind-a-screen’ type, or don’t have any one to go on a date with? Then maybe Bord för En is more your thing. Meaning ‘table for one’ your food is served to you, and you alone, in the middle of a field via a giant pulley system. Genius.
Back to the UK, and The Smithfield in Derby has given its insight into how serving drinks in a socially distanced way could actually work. I’m backing there’s a few of you wish you could do this on a regular basis.
Over in Germany at Café & Konditorei Rothe in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, you could don a rather dashing hat in a bid to stay socially distant – or not.
And finally, one of the best we could find comes from Fish Tales Bar in Ocean City, USA, whose idea of giant rubber rings is awesome.
