Returning for its 2025 edition, the Marie Brizard Cocktail Competition invites Australian bartenders to get creative and craft a cocktail that highlights a Marie Brizard liqueur.
Launched in 1755 by France’s first woman master liquorist, Maison Marie Brizard was created to represent the free and independent mind. Marie Brizard herself selected, distilled and blended the finest ingredients to create her liqueurs, and today the portfolio includes a wide range of aromatically intense and complex liqueurs.
To enter the competition, bartenders are required to create a cocktail that heroes the flavour of any Marie Brizard liqueur and share their creation on Instagram. Initial submissions will be judged on creativity, image and recipes, and following the shortlisting of entries across four regional groups, cocktails will be tasted in-venue in May to select four finalists.
In June, the four finalists will be flown to Brisbane to compete during Bartenders’ Weekender, each taking home $1000 in prize money. The national winner will receive a $5000 cash prize and a two-page spread in Boothby magazine.
Marie Brizard has offered some inspiration to bartenders, highlighting three of the liqueurs they might choose from when crafting their cocktail.
- Anisette – the iconic liqueur: Crafted using a unique and unchanged recipe, Anisette combines eleven plants and spices, intensifying all the freshness of green anise from the Mediterranean. Anisette is described as being elegant, fresh and powerful.
- Apry: A combination of quality ingredients such as apricot spirits and infusions, combined with Gautier cognac and French rum.
- Falernum: A taste-enhancing liqueur enjoyed for its light, floral aspect, combining quality ingredients such as cola extract, concentrated lime juice and clove and ginger natural flavourings.
With competition entries now open until Wednesday, 30 April, you can find more details below about how to enter:
