Lark Distilling Co is celebrating Lunar New Year for the first time with a limited-edition single malt whisky to mark the Year of the Dragon in 2024.
Inspired by Lark’s Classic Cask Single Malt whisky, the Lark Dragon Release Single Malt Whisky has been aged in 100 per cent first-fill Sherry and Port casks and finished in Seppeltsfield Tawny casks.
Speaking about the new release Lark’s Master Distiller Chris Thomson said: “Lark’s Dragon Release Single Malt is viscous, yet has great depth and it takes the whisky drinker on a journey from the traditional to the new world.
“This special single malt whisky has been distilled with the intention of producing a rich and confident palate structure, just like the dragon it represents.”
Tasting notes for the whisky describe a nose of “toffee apple and custard, with fresh citrus and subtle floral oak developing over time,” a palate of “tender dried figs and stewed fruits combined with rich malt, silky plum pudding and red berries,” and a finish that is “rich and warming with creamy caramel and aged Tawny oak.”
The limited-edition release comprises 4488 bottles available through global travel retail and selected outlets across Australia and features a design from local Shenzhen artists Yao and Susu from 1983Asia.
Speaking about the design, the pair said: “Through the use of vibrant colours and references to natural elements akin with Lark’s award-winning whisky-making, this design breaks through the traditional stereotypes. “The Wood Dragon represents new starts, great beginnings, hard work, growth and prosperity and we are honoured to bring this to life for Lark’s first Lunar New Year release.”
