Achieving a remarkable ‘threepeat’, Never Never distillery was awarded the Champion Australian Distiller Trophy at the Australian Distilled Spirits Awards (ADSA) presentation held on Wednesday 26 October at Melbourne Showgrounds.
Never Never also picked up an additional nine medals, including five golds. The distillery triumphed in the categories of: Best New World / Contemporary Gin (major trophy), New World / Contemporary Gin (where it picked up gold and silver), London Dry Gin (again taking out the top two spots on the podium), Wine / Grape Gin and Absinthe (Alternative Spirit).
It was the most competitive edition of the ADSA yet, with the competition growing from 162 distilleries in 2020 to more than 200 in 2022, an increase of almost 30 per cent. Entries also expanded, growing from 619 to 863 spirits and liqueurs competing. The awards were judged by a panel of 40 drinks and spirits experts.
Never Never’s Head Distiller and Co-founder, Tim Boast, expressed his delight at again winning the award.
“Going back-to-back-to-back as Australia’s best was an incredible moment, especially looking at the quality of spirits being produced in Australia right now,” Tim said.
In a statement released prior to this week’s Melbourne Cup Festival, the distillery compared its achievements with those of Makybe Diva, the only horse to win three Melbourne Cups.
‘Makybe Diva won three Melbourne Cups in a row but the field didn’t go from 24 to 32 horses,’ the distillery commented, tongue firmly in cheek.
“When we started we wanted to make the best gin in Australia, and the consistency of awards continue to validate the fact that we make fantastic products,” Tim continued.
“Every bottle of gin we make is an invitation to cause a stir; we make gin that’s bold in character, to create an exciting drinking experience.
“If you haven’t tried a Triple Juniper G&T, I reckon now is a good time to start, I know I’m about to have one,” Tim concluded.
