The team behind Napier-based Teresa Cocktail Bar are about to travel to Barbados, the birthplace of rum.
In September last year, Andrea Marseglia, Josh Loman and Sara Mazzucco won the inaugural Plantation Rum Cup with their cocktail ‘The Boccioni’s Punch’ and their exceptional service. Now, at the end of March, the team will be treated to a week-long trip to Barbados and Plantation Rum’s West Indies Distillery. The trio will be accompanied by Proof & Company’s New Zealand Commercial Manager, Dan King.
The Plantation Rum Cup is extended to the whole team of the winning venue, recognising that the guests’ experience is created by every staff member, not just the bartender.
The Plantation Rum Cup trophy is proudly displayed at Teresa Bar, and the excitement is brewing among the team.
“Working in the drink industry, we feel very honoured to have this great opportunity to visit Barbados, the birthplace of Rum. The West Indies Rum Distillery, where some of the Plantation Rum rums are distilled, is on our bucket list, and it will give us the chance to taste a great variety of authentic rums also based on their different stills,” said Marseglia.
Founded by master blender Alexandre Gabriel in 1990, Plantation Rum utilises traditional techniques. The rum is first aged in the Caribbean, then aged again in French oak casks in Cognac, France. Marseglia, Loman, and Mazzucco hope to return home with some of the Barbados distillery’s exclusive rums.
