The Gresham Greenhorn Cocktail Competition returns for 10-year anniversary

The return of the The Gresham Greenhorn Cocktail Competition has been announced, with the distinguished contest celebrating its 10th anniversary as it embarks on a nationwide tour.

In partnership with the world class Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight Bourbon, a product of American family-owned Buffalo Trace Distillery, the competition will kick off on Monday 28 August. Showcasing the brightest emerging talent in Australia’s bartending scene, the Greenhorn tour will journey through some of Australia’s most respected bars, from Rude Boy in Tasmania to Burrow Bar in Sydney.

In collaboration with renowned Brisbane bar, The Gresham, the cocktail competition will culminate in a national final on Sunday 29 October in the heart of the CBD.

“The Gresham firmly holds the belief that experiential learning is paramount,” said Dan Gregory, General Manager. “Greenhorn is more than just a competition. It is a platform for budding bartenders to refine their artistry and present it on a grand stage.”

“Buffalo Trace, with its legacy as Australia’s oldest continuously operating distilleries, mirrors our passion and commitment to excellence as well as honoring tradition and embracing change,” added The Gresham team.

Contestants will have the opportunity to craft a signature cocktail featuring Buffalo Trace Distillery’s multi-award-winning bourbon, as the Greenhorn seeks out the very best from Australia’s youngest and brightest bartenders. Each signature serve will be assessed on its creativity, taste and presentation by a panel of industry veterans, as well as the overall prowess showcased by each bartender.

This year’s winner will take home the title of the Nations’ Best Emerging Bartender, and one of Buffalo Trace’s most coveted bourbons, George T. Stagg, a bold 15-year-old whiskey offering up spices, molasses, pecan and chocolate flavours.

Competition entries are open to bartenders with less than three years’ experience. Aspiring participants can register for the competition here, before entries close on Tuesday 22 August.
