Maggie May is the latest venue opened by Hallmark Hospitality, adding to the growing nightlife scene in Newstead, Queensland. It’s a funky colourful venue, with a seventies style that aims to bring a smile to its visitors.
Hallmark Hospitality was established in 2014 and now owns and operates a range of bars, restaurants and nightclubs and Bars and Clubs spoke to Jackie Schougaard, the venue manager of Maggie May about what this venue brings to the group’s portfolio.
In explaining the venue, Jackie said: “Maggie May is an endearing seventies-style supper club bringing a fun-loving charm to Gasworks Plaza in Newstead.
“Exuding seventies-inspired class and style, we really wanted to transport guests back in time to one of our most loved eras, bringing to life a kaleidoscope of patterns and bold colours. Unlike any other venue, our retro-inspired supper club hosts the perfect atmosphere for guests to embody the free-spirited persona of the seventies.”
Maggie Mau has been in Hallmark’s pipeline for some time, with the fitout taking approximately three months, and Jackie added: “Maggie May’s decadent charm would be nothing without our talented design team, Borhan Ghofrani and BSPN.”
Talking through the drinks offering, Jackie told Bars and Clubs: “The fun cocktail menu features concoctions like Saturday Night Fever and Oh, Jane Fonda just to name a few. The extensive wine list also boasts an impressive range of decadent drops to delight, even an all-natural wine selection.
“We get excited by craftmanship and as such, the all-natural or minimal intervention wines added a unique offering for our customers.”
And her personal favourite? Jackie told us: “Like Maggie May, I prefer not to pick favourites, however, I cannot resist a Superstition. The berry-infused gin cocktail is a favourite amongst friends and a perfect accessory on the weekend.”
The venue is also keeping up with trends by offering a wide selection of non-alcohol and low-alcohol drink options.
In terms of location, Jackie said the venue fits perfectly with her surrounds: “Maggie May is the coolest girl on the block so there’s no question that she’s located in the ultra cool Gasworks Plaza precinct in Newstead,” she said. “Maggie May caters not only for Gasworks residents and professionals, but also for inner-city trend setters seeking a fun new locale that offers great food and even better drinks.”
And Jackie explained that customers are the heart of Maggie May. “Our fun-loving staff create a warm and energetic vibe for customers – whether they come in for a morning coffee, afternoon wine or cocktails and share plates in the evening. Our retro supper club is a place where patrons can feel at home and enjoy a good time with friends, family and colleagues.”
Jackie is clearly very excited by the new venue and told Bars and Clubs: “Throw on your fur coat, funky shoes and come on over to Maggie May. She’s the girl everyone loves, the girl everyone wants to know and the girl who will steal your heart – she’s the coolest kid on the block.”
Maggie May is open now at 3/84 Longland St, Newstead, QLD.
