World Bar returns for one night only

On Saturday 18 November, almost five years to the day since it closed its doors, famous Sydney institution World Bar will make its comeback for one night only.

Taking over local nightlife venue Kings Cross Hotel in Potts Point, World Bar will return for a one-off reunion party. Paying tribute to the history of the venue, the World Bar – One More Time event will host live music and DJs across the venue’s four levels with a capacity of 900 patrons.

One of Sydney’s infamous music venues and a key part of the nightlife scene before its closure in 2018, World Bar hosted thousands of live performances from bands, including Gang of Youths, What So Not, Nina Las Vegas and Ninajirachi, and internationally renowned DJs such as Dom Dolla. Looking to recreate the atmosphere of World Bar once again, more than 20 artists and producers are involved in the creation of a stellar one-off line up.

Regular patrons may remember the famed teapots that hung in rows above the bar, which will be filled once again with sweet cocktails throughout the night.

Speaking about the much-loved establishment, World Bar Owner Steve Ward expressed his excitement to reintroduce people to the memories of years gone by.

“It’s been a while since we threw a shindig, we think it’s time.

“We always had a great relationship with the characters at the Kings Cross Hotel, so we’re looking forward to working with them to bring World Bar back to life. The building has some similarities, so we’re hoping to emulate much of what made it special, from the busyness of the stairwells to the floor-to-floor discovery, where each level has something interesting to reveal.”

Elliot Solomon, CEO of Solotel which operates the Kings Cross Hotel, said the return of the venue in the form of a one-off event demonstrates the group’s ongoing commitment to creating unforgettable experiences across the city.

“Like so many Sydneysiders, I spent much of my youth at World Bar. It’s an institution that had a big impact on a generation of music lovers and partygoers, and so bringing it to Kings Cross Hotel and sharing it with a new, younger audience too is really special.”

“Some say you will never be the same again,” said Steve, when asked what people should expect.

Tickets for the event are on sale now.
