A slice of South Carolina in inner west Sydney

The Charleston, a new South Carolina-inspired restaurant and cocktail bar, has opened on Glebe Point Road in Sydney’s inner west.

The venue is inspired by the colours and flavours of the South Carolina coastline, with dusty pink walls, periwinkle seating and exposed brickwork throughout the venue, and an open kitchen and outdoor terrace adding to the alfresco feel. It’s the second inner west venue for Sydneysiders Rob Teitzel and Osman Misirlizade, co-owners of The Cottage Bar & Kithcen in Balmain.

The Charleston’s cocktail menu focuses on playful adaptations of traditional cocktails with ingredients that nod to the venue’s namesake southern-roots, including infused sweet teas; hero summer cocktails include The Charleston Sling (lemon grass infused gin, rose hip tea, lemon juice, simple syrup) and Carolina High Tea (Bulleit rye bourbon, peach liqueur, peach iced tea, lemon juice).

The venue has also partnered with nearby brewery Young Henrys, bringing their Natural Lager to the taps and Stayer Mid Strength & Newtowner tinnies to the fridges.

The food menu also takes inspiration from across South Carolina. Designed by head chef Ellena Kim, seafood, barbequed meats and vegetarian dishes on the menu incorporate traditional flavours of the south with fresh, local produce sourced from Sydney’s finest suppliers.

Signature dishes include the Lobster Roll with kohlrabi, apple remoulade, house pickle and served in a luxe milk bun, freshly shucked Sydney rock oysters and corn tortilla tacos with a choice of fish, pulled pork or cauliflower popcorn fillings.

The Charleston is open Tuesday to Wednesday 5pm–late, Thursday to Saturday 12pm–late and Sunday 12pm—10pm.
