The semi-finalists for Australia’s 2018/2019 Bacardi Legacy Cocktail Competition have been revealed, with the top eight bartenders now set to head to Brisbane to battle it out for a spot in the top three and the national final.
With the top 30 revealed earlier this month, Bacardi Brand Ambassadors Loy Catada, Georgie Mann and Peter Hollands have been working tirelessly to review those entries. The trio have made each drink, reviewed the recipe videos submitted by each bartender and ultimately decided on the eight who will head to the semi-final, which takes place on 29 October at Brisbane’s newly opened Boom Boom Room.
The competitors were judged against a set criteria including taste, aroma, innovation and inspiration and Catada said he was captivated with the professionalism with which the competitors approached the competition.
“They were very passionate, the drinks were positively delicious, and their preparation and enthusiasm for the competition came across in every video,” Catada said.
The top eight bartenders who will be advancing to the semi-final are:
- Adam Dow – Dead Ringer NSW
- Alex Brown – Convent Garden QLD
- Dan Wall – Bibliotheca Bar & Book Exchange SA
- David Robinson – Snapper Rocks NT
- Jack Stacey – The Gresham QLD
- Mikey Braun – Mjolner VIC
- Millie Tang – The Gresham QLD
- Will Krepop – Jungle Boy VIC
The top three selected from this list will be joined in the final by Wild Card, Jenna Hemsworth, to make up Australia’s Four Most Promising.
The top four will be mentored by a dedicated Brand Ambassador and will partner with Bacardi to market and promote their cocktail. Then, based on the success of their drink and overall campaign, one of the Four Most Promising will be selected as the 2019 Bacardi Legacy Australian Cocktail Competition winner.
That winner will then head to Amsterdam to compete for the ultimate title in the Bacardi Legacy Global Cocktail Competition final.
