Liquor licensing: what you need to know

Having hosted a free event on 21 October to assist new and potential entrants to the hospitality industry, the Office of Liquor, Gaming & Racing (OLGR) have now posted the session online.

Available to everyone, it discusses in depth the processes involved in applying for, transferring or amending a liquor licence in NSW.

The two-hour long workshop – called Liquor Licensing 101 – aims to give viewers a complete overview of the liquor licensing application process, including everything they need to know to get started in the industry.

Topics covered included up-to-date information on the licence application process, council DA/zoning, location, what makes a great venue, and compliance best practice.

Specific advice is also offered on:

  • The steps required to submit a complete liquor licence application.
  • If applications will need other approvals or documents for submission.
  • The correct liquor licence category for particular business activities.
  • The most common mistakes made by new industry entrants and how to avoid them.

A vodcast of the workshop is available to view here.

The Liquor Licensing 101 workshop is part of City of Sydney’s series of Business 101 seminars that are designed for both existing and budding small business owners.

Note: A liquor licence freeze prohibiting the grant of certain new liquor licence types, as well as certain approvals and authorisations for existing licences, continues to operate across the Sydney CBD and Kings Cross precincts. Visit the OLGR website to find out more.
